Canon Iteration Explanation: N/A
★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills: - Pilot
- Mechanic
- Gambling
- Determination
- Intelligence

Canon Abilities: N/A
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: Black wings of glossy black feathers (like a rook, get it...?) that will remain mostly hidden and color shifting eyes. Bodhi will have enhanced strength and bravery, but he will also suffer from an easy loss of control of his emotions.
Role Reasoning: Because at the end of the day, Bodhi is a good hearted person. He did not join the Empire out of a selfishness or hate, but because where he lived it was simply a means to get by. And it was his mostly kind nature that made it harder and harder to ignore the atrocities that they committed towards the galaxy. He eventually followed his heart with the help of an Imperial Scientist by the name of Galen Erso who gave him a chance to make things right. It means facing incredible risks, facing down a rebel cell that doesn't trust him, and eventually undertaking a hugely risky mission that can will probably mean death for him and everyone else involved. But it will give the rebels a fighting chance against the Empire.
★ Personality ★

  • What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why? While delivering goods from Jedha to Eadu, Bodhi met an imperial scientist by the name of Galen Erso. The man would become very important to Bodhi, as he was the one who gave Bodhi the chance to not only leave the Empire but to undo some of the harm that he was a part of and stick it to them. Bodhi would call it his "reprogramming" to the imperial droid he met on the Jedha escape. He trusted Bodhi enough to be able to carry out the mission that he could not, seeing past Bodhi's fears and telling him to follow his heart and that he would be able to do the right thing. And that's what he did.
  • What is a headcanon (or two) you feel strongly about and that you prefer playing your character with? How is this supported in canon and why do you think it benefits the character's story? Despite his quiet nature, one headcanon I have is that Bodhi was not always this awkward or doubting, that he was a bit hot headed in his youth before joining the Empire, even getting in trouble with them on more than one occasion with them. It's in moments where he's talking to Saw Gerrera about the message and his men not believing him that he starts to get angry at them for doubting him and that he's gone through all of the things he has -- but they wont believe them? Bodhi also comes from an Imperial occupied space and there weren't a lot of opportunities afforded to him, I have gone with the reason that he joined the Empire was because he had his mother to take care of.
  • What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise. Definitely Bodhi himself does not see himself as a brave person. It stems a lot from a lack of confidence in himself and in his abilities, but he is braver than he gives himself credit for. He doesn't realize that he is just brave in the kind of way that is bourne out of desperation and fear. He risks his life several times. not knowing if he will be killed or not or if what he's doing will have any meaning. If he had more confidence in himself and faith in his skills and abilities, it's likely that he would realize that he is brave, and that he is capable of other acts of bravery.
  • What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed? Bodhi, actually really does enjoy the act of flying. He's a pilot and he's good at it -- he'd probably have been a fighter pilot if he was able to pass the exams but there is something that's calming and peaceful about flying, when it's just him and him alone for however long he has to get to the next place. He can put on a bit of music or listen to a podcast and simply forget that he's delivering goods to people that are destroying the galaxy for a short period of time.

bodhi rook
can you stand the person you've become?

PERSONALITY

"bodhi rook had only ever doubted himself, and today was no exception." - rogue one novelization

Bodhi Rook is about as average as they come. Not a mystical being with incredible abilities, or a fierce warrior. He's just... himself. He grew up in an Imperial occupied city, got into trouble with the law on a few occasions in his youth, and grew up to work for the Empire as a cargo pilot. There aren't many opportunities for someone like him, much less in a war zone like his home, and so he enrolled in the academy with hopes of becoming a fighter pilot. But after failing his tests, he's assigned another, less glorious job.

A little hot-headed, his self confidence begins to deteriorate over time, and he begins to second guess and doubt himself. His anxiety begins to become a problem, he takes up gambling, and becomes withdrawn.

But it's a job - he's good enough at it, not great. Pilots are common, and low on the chain of command - perhaps even lower than the Stormtroopers, so he doesn't stick out at all. He just needs to keep his head down and do it, which he does. Ignoring all that's going on around him. That he's delivering supplies of goods to the Empire that are native only to Jedha, his home. He does it until he discovers what it is that he's being an accessory to. The building of a giant super weapon that can destroy planets in it's wake. Those crystals he'd been entrusted to deliver are to be it's power source.

It's enough to push him into realizing that he needed to leave, that he didn't want to be a part of this. Somehow he caught the attention of the head scientist on Eadu, where the weapon is being built, a man by the name of Galen Erso. Despite his many misgivings, he agrees to take a message at the man's behest to a rebel revealing a flaw on the machine that will destroy it.

But Bodhi - he doubts himself, he doesn't see his actions as brave or worthy of praise. Maybe, if he was brave - he would have defected a long time ago. He believes that by defecting, and delivering the message and what is hopefully a killing blow to the Empire, that he can make up for what it is that he's done. Despite his minor position, he feels responsible for the evils that they've created - that by doing this he can undo some of it.

And Galen is counting on him to succeed. If the weapon can be destroyed, there's no telling how many lives will be spared.

"He said I could do right by myself. He said I could make it right if I was brave enough, and listened to what is in my heart." - rogue one novelization

It is bravery, though. Just the kind that comes from fear and desperation. And he is desperate. Especially when upon his attempt to deliver Galen Erso's message goes sideways he finds himself captive of the very man he'd been trying to find. Despite Bodhi's desperate pleading, despite his anger at the rebels for their inability to see him in his Imperial uniform as anything but another piece in the Empire's war machine, and the way he tries to fight, he just wants them to see before it's too late - he's taken to something called the Bor Gullet, which is a creature that is able to see when someone is telling the truth or not.

The problem is the side effects and lasting problems that it leaves behind. It tears through Bodhi's memories, and leaves them out of place. Not lost, but simply misplaced, not the order that they should be. It leaves him sometimes unable to tell what is real and what isn't, unable to recall some things, and getting lost in his head from time to time.

Despite that, he manages well enough or at least becomes good enough at pretending that he's coping with it, that his mind is intact, and increasingly has moments where he seems more like his old self.

He tends to wear his emotions on his sleeve. Joy, pain, fear, anger, sadness.. Bodhi feels a lot. He blames himself for not being enough, for being too late when it comes to the destruction of his home by the Death Star. He takes failures to heart.

The anxiety that has plagued him becomes a lot more visible - tends to ramble, he's twitchy, especially after Bor Gullet - and seems constantly afraid and jumpy - or at least, out of his element. It's worth nothing that he's not a soldier, or a fighter like most of the rebels, but he's also one of the first people to stand beside Jyn's plan to steal the plans because they have a chance here and he's determined to see this thing through, even though it means throwing himself into a fight. Galen died to give it to them, and he still wants to make amends. Even knowing that it's a suicide mission. It's safe to say he's loyal to the man, and the people that he's met along the way, as well.

And he's determined and intelligent, enough so that he's able to even defect and not get caught right off. Despite his doubt, Bodhi works well enough under pressure still, and it's through his knowledge of the workings of the Empire and a bit of quick thinking on his part that they're able to sneak onto Scarif, the base where the plans for the Death Star are kept undercover, and then able to transmit the message. It's not until that very moment, after he runs out into the open, under blaster fire, and is able to get into contact with the rebels beyond the shield gate to tell them what to do does he finally feel that he's done enough to make up for what he's done, only a few moments before a grenade is tossed into his ship, killing him instantly.

ABOUT

*Bodhi Rook is a former Imperial pilot. Hailing from the moon Jedha, he was raised by his mother and they lived poor. When old enough, he joined the Imperial academy in order to provide for her and to become a fighter pilot.*

He wound up shipping cargo, miserable, keeping his head down and doing his job. Until he was assigned to Eadu and met Galen Erso, who eventually built trust with him and got him to defect, carrying a message to the Rebellion about the weapon that he was designing. The Death Star.

Bodhi delivers the message to Saw Gerrera, who doesn't believe him and subjects him to the most uncomfortable to watch scene , having his mind torn apart by a lie detecting tentacle monster. After which, he's thrown into a cell and left to rot...

... and rescued by Cassian Andor and co. Just in time to witness the destruction of Jedha. They go to retrieve Galen, Galen is killed by Rebellion bombers.

And on Yavin 4, Bodhi stands with Jyn when she proposes to the council they fight, however the Rebellion chooses not to act. So he, like many others choose to go to Scarif in order to steal the plans. On the fly, he comes up with the call sign "Rogue One", and once on Scarif his knowledge of Imperial bases gets them in.

From there on in, he provides technical support to the soldiers and makes contact with the Rebels up above after the shield gate is closed.

Bodhi is killed by a stormtrooper's grenade being thrown on the ship but his last words?

"This is for you, Galen."

APPEARANCE

Height; 5'6" Weight; 145 lbs or so. Visual: Bodhi is average height - a bit on the smaller and thinner side, not much in the way of muscle to him. He's a pilot, not a soldier - no military training and his meals probably consisted of ration bars or whatever is simple and ready to eat. His black hair goes about to his shoulders and is usually tied up in a ponytail or bun (occasionally left loose). Dark eyes, wide and expressionate - accompanied by large bags under, hinting of someone running on little to no rest.

Bodhi is very animated, he's almost never still - if he's not wringing his hands, he's fidgeting with something on his person, like his clothes or hair. Posture wise, he slouches as if to hide or fold into himself, keeping his head down. He's not particularly closed off when it comes to his emotions, they're usually very obvious, even when he doesn't really want them to be - it's not hard to tell when he's angry or upset or anxious because his demeanor will give it away.

Like almost everything about him, Bodhi's voice is very excited - stuttering and stammering, speaking almost too quickly for anyone who doesn't know him. On the flip side, when he's calmer, he's much more pronounced. His sentences are usually punctuated with pauses or the occasional "um" and other filler words. His voice is quiet, until he doesn't want it to be. He's played by Riz Ahmed, who you can hear (and see) as Bodhi here!

OTHER

Bodhi is in relatively good physical health. No illness or underlying medical issues. Despite eating habits, is still relatively rail thin.

Mental health is a little bit different. Bodhi suffers from PTSD from being tortured and held captive, Eadu, Scarif and dying. He has fits of anxiety and is prone to occasional bouts of panic and fear which vary in severity. Sometimes elevating to full on attacks.

When nervous, it's easy to tell as he will stammer and his hands will sometimes shake.

Nightmares and terrors are also commonplace, so his sleeping patterns vary from a few hours a night or not at all, depending on how bad they can be.

Known triggers include loud noises, fireworks and being grabbed roughly at the back of his neck, by the wrist or bound. Also Saw fucking Gerrera and anything with tentacles.
